Become an accredited European Training Centre in Gynaecological Oncology.

ESGO Accredited In gynae oncology training

Based on ESGO’s European standards of training and care in gynaecological oncology, ESGO provides recognition for excellence in training by accrediting centres across Europe and beyond.

 

Once accredited by ESGO, centres become a European Training Centre in Gynaecological Oncology. ESGO-accredited training centres are authorised to provide certified training to fellows seeking to undergo subspecialty certification to receive the ESGO-EBCOG Diploma of European Gynaecological Oncologist.

When applying for accreditation as a training centre, centres can also seek further accreditation in two special interest training modules, Diagnostic and Interventional Ultrasound and/or Systemic Treatment.

Eligibility

To get accredited, centres must:

  • Demonstrate the highest degree of teamwork and concentration of resources for the intensive investigation and management of patients.
  • Establish a formal training programme according to the requirements of national bodies. If the national training programme does not exist, the centre should follow the European standards as defined in the ESGO Curriculum.
  • Have an adequate workload providing a full range of experience in the subspecialty.
  • Have adequate medical staffing.
  • Provide adequate library, laboratory and other resources.
  • Provide the resources for a research programme related to the subspecialty.

ESGO Curriculum

Centres must meet the criteria set out in the ESGO Curriculum.

 

The ESGO Curriculum has been based on and around the competence and structure of the general basic training in obstetrics and gynaecology.

 

In 2025, the ESGO Curriculum was formally adopted by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) in recognition of its alignment with the European Training Requirements.

Reaccreditation

  • The general process applies as outlined in the overview.
  • Additional requirements for accreditation as a training centre:
    • To be eligible, a centre must have had at least one ESGO fellow during their period of initial accreditation (or most recent period of accreditation).
    • When applying for reaccreditation, centres will need to provide ESGO with a direct comparison of their local training programme with the ESGO Curriculum.

Special interest training modules

The special interest training modules are specialised educational tracks that centres can incorporate into their subspecialty certification programmes. These modules are designed to facilitate dedicated training in specific non-surgical areas of gynaecological oncology.

 

Modules available:

  • Diagnostic and Interventional Ultrasound
  • Systemic Treatment

 

Centres can apply for accreditation in one or both special interest training modules at the time of seeking accreditation as a training centre. Accreditation in these modules cannot be attained without also having or seeking accreditation as a training centre.

 

How to apply

  • Indicate your interest in either of the two special interest training modules directly in the application form
  • Fill out the required information and submit your application

 

Already ESGO-accredited as a training centre?

For centres that are already accredited as training centres, you are required to apply for accreditation as a training centre again with your updated data. You will also need to upload an updated training programme for the special interest training module(s) you are seeking to be accredited in.

 

For current accredited training centres who seek accreditation with the special interest training modules, the fee for re-accreditation will be waived and their accreditation extended.

Requirements

Diagnostic and Interventional Ultrasound

  • ≥ one educational supervisor meeting EFSUMB level III criteria,
  • access to high-quality ultrasound equipment and software,
  • access to advanced interventional procedures,
  • systematic integration of ultrasound findings into the multidisciplinary team discussion and patient management plans.
  • abdomino-pelvic ultrasound staging in all new patients.

Systemic Treatment

  • an educational supervisor for special interest training with ≥ 5 years’ experience in systemic treatment or specific certification,
  • infrastructure for administration of anticancer agents,
  • capacity to manage treatment‑related toxicities, including ICU support.
