Uterine transposition has emerged as an alternative technique for fertility preservation in young women with pelvic cancer who need radiation. Basically, before radiotherapy, the uterus is transposed together with tubes and ovaries to the superior abdomen as a flap, using the gonadal vessels for blood supply. The goal is keeping the reproductive organs outside the radiotherapy field in order to preserve their function. After radiation, the uterus along tubes and ovaries are placed back to its natural position. Preliminary data suggest that uterine transposition is a feasible option for selected patients with pelvic cancer that require pelvic radiotherapy.
