The ESGO Travelling Fellowship is a grant programme that provides financial support to gynaecological oncologists who have arranged a fellowship at an ESGO-accredited Training Centre outside of their country of origin or residence. By enabling fellows to gain experience in leading centres, the programme contributes to improving patient care and strengthening international collaboration.
This programme is open to ESGO members only.
Application
Applications are currently open for the Travelling Fellowship.
The deadline to apply is 31 December 2026.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold an invitation from a host institution that is an ESGO-accredited Training Centre.
- Have active ESGO membership at the time of application and during the time of their fellowship.
- Have held a junior position at their home institution for up to 5 years.
- Speak and understand the language of the host institution, or English, whichever is most applicable.
- Have not been awarded financial support via the ESGO Travelling Fellowship before.
- Commit to return to their home country after completion of the fellowship
Documents required
The following documents are required as part of the application process:
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Description of purpose of visit, and how this aligns with the objectives of the ESGO Travelling Fellowships (limited to 250 words)
- Explanation of why the host institution has been selected and is suitable (limited to 250 words)
- Letter of support from applicant’s home institution, including a statement that the applicant will return to the home institution, or at least the home country after having finished the fellowship
- Letter of support from the hosting centre
- Time planning of the fellowship
Financial support
The amount of financial support varies based on the duration of the fellowship and the availability of funds each year.
The usual funding amounts are:
- €1,500 for a 1-month fellowship
- €2,000 for a 2-month fellowship
The grant is paid in two instalments:
- First instalment: grant amount minus €500
- Second instalment: €500 after successful completion of the fellowship and approval of the final report.

Fellows are required to submit a short report outlining their experience and outcomes within one month of completion of the fellowship.

Selection process

Applications are reviewed by three independent experts using an online scoring system.

Due to the high number of applications, individual feedback may be limited. However, ESGO may share general comments from the evaluation committee when available.

Yes. Applicants are responsible for identifying and contacting a suitable ESGO-accredited host institution.

ESGO can provide an official support letter confirming the fellowship award. However, obtaining the visa remains the fellow's responsibility.
