Advanced Course on the Multidisciplinary Team Management of Cervical Cancer

The exclusive ESGO course aims to enable practical implementation of advanced concepts and techniques in daily practice focussing on the multidisciplinary management of locally advanced cervical cancer.

The 2-day course offers experienced multidisciplinary teams of gynaecological oncologists and radiation oncologists an overview of the evidence-based theory combined with demonstration of brachytherapy skills.

The management of cervical cancer is becoming increasingly complex, driven by advances in surgical techniques, radiotherapy, systemic therapies, and multidisciplinary care models. Optimizing outcomes for patients with locally advanced or recurrent disease requires seamless collaboration between surgeons, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists. Despite growing evidence and updated international guidelines, practical, interdisciplinary training that integrates contemporary treatment strategies with real-world clinical decision-making remains limited. Most postgraduate programs are largely monodisciplinary, providing few opportunities for collaborative case-based reasoning and team-based planning.

The course evolved from the development of multidisciplinary guidelines on cervical cancer treatment. It aims to continue the critical, cross-specialty discussions that emerged during that process. A major focus is on areas where disciplines intersect, including surgery vs radiotherapy and the increasingly important role of systemic therapy).

A core value of the course is its multidisciplinary nature. Participants are encouraged to attend as teams, including surgeons, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists —to foster in-depth discussions and collaborative decision-making.

The course provides practical insights applicable immediately in clinical practice and engages participants in high-level discussions on complex and controversial cases. Led by international experts in surgery, radiation, and systemic therapy, the program offers an integrated learning experience in this rapidly evolving field.

Target audience

We highly encourage multidisciplinary teams of gynaecological oncologists and radiation oncologists to participate. This course is aimed at experienced gynaecological oncologists and radiation oncologists wishing to introduce high-level treatment of complex locally advanced cervical cancer, including both the primary tumour and recurrence. Course participants should have a specific interest in the implementation of advanced surgical and radiation techniques and interest in optimising the multidisciplinary approach in their practice.
