Europe’s Leading Gynaecological Cancers Society

The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) is a not-for-profit association established in 1983.

Since its formation, ESGO has developed a strong infrastructure of 3000+ members and a network of early-career doctors, patient advocacy groups, centres of excellence and a variety of research groups across Europe and globally.

Mission

ESGO’s aim is to improve the health and well-being of women with gynaecological cancers through advocacy, prevention, research, excellence in care and education.

Objectives

  • Raise the standards and harmonise training in gynaecological oncology by:
    • establishing a structured training system, curriculum and fellowship programme
    • delivering high-quality education activities and training opportunities
    • improving training in limited-resource countries
  • Enhance gynaecological cancers management and standardise quality of care through:
    • developing multidisciplinary guidelines and consensus statements
    • establishing best practices and holistic recommendations to address patients’ needs
    • setting quality indicators
    • accrediting cancer centres
  • Facilitate research and disseminate the latest scientific breakthroughs and information about innovative treatments through:
    • promoting and stimulating scientific exchange
    • enhancing data collection and real-world data sharing
    • fostering clinical and translational research
  • Raise public and governmental awareness by:
    • advocating about gynaecological cancers, their prevention and optimal diagnosis
    • advocating for the quality of gynaecological cancer care to improve patient outcomes, survival rates, and quality of life – whilst ensuring health system efficiency
