History of ENYGO

The idea of developing a pan-European network of trainees was initially suggested to the ESGO council in 2007 by Dr. Murat Gultekin.  With ESGO’s support and endorsement , Dr Gultekin led the initial efforts which over 2 years facilitated the establishment of ENYGO. An initial core group of trainee representatives was appointed and worked in conjunction with Dr Gultekin to establish this network. These included Rene Laky, Michele Peiretti, Ranjit Manchanda, Michaela Bossart, Patricu Achimas, Boris Vranes, Jacek Grabowski, Toon van Gorp, Jurgen Piek and Michal Halaska who were among the first national representatives of the network. Subsequently each member country appointed a trainee national representative. The first elections of ENYGO took place at the ESGO meeting in Belgrade in 2009 and Boris Vranes was elected as President and Murat Gultekin as the Vice President. The first ENYGO executive group was appointed by the President and included Jurgen Piek, Michaela Bossart, Jacek Grabowski and Ranjit Manchanda. This group formed ENYGO executive group (EEG) and were charged with developing and expanding ENYGO and its activities. As a result of their zeal and vision ENYGO has grown and now has over 300 members with national representatives from over 40 countries and numerous activities like regular ENYGO sessions at the ESGO congresses, surveys, publications, ENYGO workshops and endorsed meetings as well as different social events. A number of achievements can be credited to the collective efforts of the ENYGO Executive Group.

ENYGO has now been established as a pan-European network representing the voice of trainees across Europe aiming to become a platform for the exchange of ideas and facilitation of collaborations and projects among trainees in gynae oncology.
